The photo dates to August 2014, posted with a caption that a friend’s hamster looked like a cartoon. It sat mostly unnoticed for six years until an October 2020 YouTube video stamped the misspelling “Hampter” over it and the format took off from there.

The eyes carry the whole face. Oversize them slightly more than looks natural.
